IJT continues to torture Pro-Judiciary students

SOME Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) activists allegedly tortured a student at the Punjab University (PU) on Tuesday.

The incident took place at the PU Law College, New Campus, when some Jamiat activists tried to remove banners of a cricket tournament, being organised by the college administration and students.

Some students attempted to stop the IJT activists from removing the banners, which infuriated them and they gave a good thrashing to one of the students, Asad. A Law College student, requesting not to be named, told The News the Jamiat activists fled as soon as anti-Jamiat students had started gathering in the college. He said the students stayed there for some time and chanted slogans, like “Go Jamiat Go,” adding that the college administration had to intervene to pacify the protesting students. <MORE>

This is third time in the last couple of months that the IJT has tortured the students in the premises of Punjab University. Prior to this, the unprovoked aggression by IJT was witnessed when they roughed up SAC members in February and later in the mid of March when the SAC members took a beating.

SAC keeps on striking…

SAC members (students of different institutes e.g. FAST, LUMS, PU, UMT etc) have continued striking in front of Lahore Press Club for the release of their detained members. From last 37 hours they are waiting for hearing of their plea but ruthless establishment seems giving no attention to their demands. SAC members are still hoping for miraculous comeback from their Government at present. Hunger, thirst and even chilly winter nights, nothing could affect their determination for the release of their friends.

We demand our Government to take serious action to release all SAC detainees without anymore delays.

Protests to get our friends released

10 people were arrested from the residence of Justice Siddiqui in GOR last night at 9 PM. The arrested guys included members of FASTRising, LUMS community and a few lawyers (including females as well). Members of Students Action Committee demonstrated against the detention of their friends and lawyers till 3 AM (7-Dec-07) in front of Race Course Police Station, the place where they were kept. Later the protesters dispersed to come later with larger strength.

The protesters gathered at Camp Jail the next afternoon (7-Dec-07) as the arrested people have been shifted to this place. Before their shift here, they had a hearing in Cantt kachehry where they were convicted of disturbing peace and MPO was imposed on them. The protesters continued to chant slogans carrying placards and banners. They dispersed around 3 PM after they were surrounded by police and they pressurised them to leave the place.

Many students from PU joined the members of SAC in both the protests but a majority of students were unable to join because of the heavy deployments of police in PU hostels to resist student movement.

Dont leave your friends alone, join us in upcoming protests !
